I try to take many healing walks outside in the sun, in the woods, by the lake. Water, woods and sun call to me. I cherish moments of solitude, peace and vitamin D. It always leaves me refreshed and rejuvenated.
“Forrests contain a higher concentration of oxygen than urban spaces do. The chemicals plants produce is called phytoncides which improve the human immune system by increasing natural killer cell activity”(US Forest Service).
Water decreases overstimulation and
elevates chemicals like tryptamine, serotonin, and melatonin. It has a calming effect on the mind (rotor.org).
The sun gives us vitamin D. Vitamin D is needed for our innate immune system, has an anti-inflammatory action, is involved in ensuring our body’s barriers (i.e., lungs, gut and skin) are in good repair, and is needed for creation of the enzymes used by certain immune cells to kill invading viruses and other pathogens (nutritionbycaroline.com).
With the pandemic, political changes and normal everyday stuff, I need as much of this yummy goodness as I can get. What about you?
